This Privacy Policy explains how WebDevPlayground (“the site,” “I,” or “me”) collects, uses, and shares information when you visit webdevplayground.com.
Information you provide
When you submit a comment, the site collects:
- Your name;
- Your email address; and
- The content of your comment.
Your name and comment may be displayed publicly. Your email address is not published. I may use it to contact you privately about your comment, such as to request clarification, answer a question, or discuss moderation.
Comment email addresses are not used for marketing or newsletters. The site does not currently operate an email newsletter. If this changes, marketing emails will not be sent without any consent required by applicable law.
If you select the option to save your name and email in your browser, WordPress stores this information in cookies for your convenience when leaving future comments.
Comment and avatar information
WordPress may record your IP address and browser user-agent information when you submit a comment. This information is used for security, moderation, and spam detection.
The site uses Gravatar to display profile images beside comments. A cryptographic hash derived from your email address may be sent to Gravatar to check whether your email is associated with an avatar. If an avatar is available, it may be displayed publicly with your comment. Gravatar is operated by Automattic. You can read Automattic’s Privacy Policy.
Spam protection with Akismet
The site uses Akismet, an automated spam-detection service operated by Automattic, to protect the comment system from spam and malicious content.
When you submit a comment, information including your name, email address, comment content, IP address, browser user-agent information, referring page, and the site URL may be sent to Automattic for analysis. Akismet uses this information to determine whether the comment is likely to be spam. A comment may be held for moderation or filtered based on that automated analysis.
Automattic processes and retains this information in accordance with its Privacy Notice for Visitors to Users’ Sites.
Information collected automatically
When you visit the site, the web server and service providers may automatically process technical information such as:
- Your IP address;
- Browser, device, and operating-system information;
- The pages you visit and actions you take on the site;
- Referring URLs; and
- The date and time of your visit.
This information is used to operate and secure the site, diagnose technical problems, understand how the site is used, and support advertising.
Google Analytics
The site uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site. Google Analytics may collect information such as page views, session statistics, approximate location, browser and device information, referral information, and interactions with the site. Cookies and cookie preferences
The site uses Complianz, a WordPress consent-management plugin, to display its cookie banner, remember your preferences, and control optional cookies and scripts according to those preferences. Complianz also provides the consent signals used by Google advertising products and participating advertising partners through the IAB Europe Transparency and Consent Framework (TCF), where applicable.
Your choices are stored on your device in first-party Complianz cookies, including cmplz_functional, cmplz_preferences, cmplz_statistics, and cmplz_marketing. The site currently remembers these choices for up to 365 days, unless you delete them earlier. When TCF applies, your advertising choices may also be encoded in a consent signal that participating advertising partners can read.

- Measure and improve site performance and content; and
- Display and measure advertising.
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, information is processed as necessary to operate the site, based on legitimate interests in running and securing it, or based on your consent. You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting processing that occurred before withdrawal.
How information is shared
Information may be processed by service providers that help operate the site, including hosting and infrastructure providers, Google, Gravatar, and Akismet. Gravatar and Akismet are operated by Automattic. These providers process information under their respective terms and privacy policies.
Information may also be disclosed when reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to a valid legal request, protect the site or its visitors, investigate abuse, or enforce legal rights.
I do not sell or rent the names or email addresses submitted through the comment form. Advertising providers may process identifiers and activity data as described above.
International data transfers
Some service providers may process information in countries other than the one in which you live. Where required, those providers use recognized safeguards for international transfers under applicable data-protection law.
Data retention
Comments and their associated metadata may be retained indefinitely so the conversation can remain available and follow-up comments can be recognized.
Complianz consent-preference cookies currently retain your choices for up to 365 days unless you delete them earlier. Server logs, analytics information, and advertising information are retained according to the site’s operational needs and the retention settings and policies of the relevant service providers.
Information may be kept longer when required for security, fraud prevention, compliance with law, or the establishment or defense of legal claims.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. You may also have the right to withdraw consent and to complain to your local data-protection authority.
To request removal or correction of a comment or its associated information, please include the comment URL and the email address used when submitting it so the request can be verified.
Security
Reasonable technical and organizational measures are used to protect information. However, no website or method of electronic storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Changes to this policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated when the site’s practices, services, or legal obligations change. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will identify the latest revision.
